Planning the Big Day: Advice from a Wedding Planner & Bride-To-Be

Weddings, weddings, and more weddings! Wedding season is here and that makes me one happy wedding planner! I LOVE everything about weddings, but it can be a stressful time if you are planning your own or helping plan one! I am a fellow bride-to- be myself, and let me just say that I have never felt any stress before like that which comes with planning my own wedding. I prefer to plan other people’s weddings instead. Throughout this blog series, I will be writing and sharing my thoughts on questions that brides have, family and friends have, and questions or concerns that have been brought to my attention, or that I have experienced firsthand.

First, let me say there is nothing more important than making the day HOW YOU WANT. This is something that I have found that brides, as well as myself, struggle with. The pressure is turned on when you announce your engagement, and people want to immediately start helping. Help is great, but when others want you to cater to their needs and wants for YOUR special day, it becomes a problem. So, do what you want, when you want, and how you want. Don’t try to please everyone.

My boss Andrea, who has been in the business for years has always said, “This day is not about putting on a show, it’s about focusing on the marriage between two people.” I feel that sometimes we get distracted on the ‘show’ of it all and we forget to step back and focus on the marriage. I will go ahead and admit that I was THAT person when starting out, so don’t feel embarrassed if you are going through the same thing.

This blog series, “Planning the Big Day” will have timelines, checklists, advice, and friendly reminders about the time leading up to the “I Do!” I am so excited to start this series with everyone. I would appreciate any feedback you may have, as well as sending in questions for me to reply or use as a topic in the blog. Remember, there are no bad questions when planning a wedding!

If you do have questions, they can be emailed to me here.

Thank you in advance my lovely Brides and followers!
